‘Nobu’ means an ‘honor guard parade for a royal visit’ or a ‘royal parade with an honor guard’, that is, it means ‘eogahaengnyeol’ (a Royal Parade). A king’s parade was a kind of the royal rites and the manners and procedures were recorded in many Etiquette Books in the Chosun Dynasty. Since it is a parade by the King of a country, the appropriate scale, demonstration and honor guard were prepared or mobilized.
In this study, ‘Nobu’ was examined based on the records specified in “Gukjo Oryeui-Seorae” in order to examine the ‘Eogahaengnyeol’ during Chosun Dynasty. Centered on Chosun Dynasty, the ‘Nobu’ for each era, such as, ‘Yeobokji’ of ‘Goryeosa’ before Chosun Dynasty and ‘Nobu’ of ‘Daehanyeojeon’ during Chosun Dynasty was examined.
The structure of ‘Nobu’ examined through some literature can be broadly divided into the Front, Middle and End Parts. An honor guard for ‘Nobu’ can be seen in many illustrations. According to ‘Nobu Doseol’, the kinds of accessories for an honor guards are 56 in total. The kinds of accessories are broadly divided into the honor guard flags and honor guard accessories. There are 27 kinds of honor guard flags and 29 kinds of honor guard accessories. ‘Nobu’ was not different a lot between those of Goryeo Dynasty and Chosun One. During the Daehan Empire, the emperor’s accessories were used for the honor guard and new names of positions appeared. The reasons were because the Country Name was changed from Chosun to Daehan and the national status was changed from a royal kingdom to an emperor’s country at the same time. In addition, the soldiers who participated in ‘Nobu’ during the Daehan Jaeguk period were dressed with some modernized costume rather than the traditional one. That was a difference from ‘Nobu’ during Chosun Dynasty.
