초록· 키워드
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the main currents of Confucianism, focusing on the ideas of three major Neo-Confucian scholars, Yi Hwang, Yi I, and Chong Yag-yong, who lived in the latter half of the Chosun period in Korea. In addition, this paper explores briefly the contemporary implications of Neo-Confucian thought toward more globally competent and communicative forms of ethics. In Confucianism, heaven communicates with human beings and the virtue of heaven is embodied in the mind-nature of a human being(Wei, 1996, p.146). Confucian ethics is centered on a harmony between heaven and people, society and the self, and the self and one’s own mind. In other words, the standard of Confucian ethics is in harmony with the Way of Heaven which means righteousness and propriety, and the virtue of heaven is embodied in the mind-nature of a human being.
