The purpose of this study was to discuss the process and prospect of elite sport policies according to political transitions in Korea Modern elite sport must be viewed on the background of the idea of systematic progress. The political focus on the development of the elite sport should not be restricted to the political willingness, but should also include the various systems that make elite sport. The background and current situation are analysed and future recommendations made. The process and prospect of the elite sport policies in Korea were as follows: 1. The awakening policies of the elite sport had been begun by Park and Jeon governments in earnest in terms of `militarism`. While Park regime had focused and based on school physical education, Jeon administration had emphasized on international sport events like `88 Seoul Olympic Game creating `The Ministry of Sport Affairs`. Since Noh regime had changed `The Ministry of Sport Affairs` to `The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs` getting troubles with the Ministry of Education. In Young Sam Kim administration, the Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs, and the present government, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had and have been in charge of the elite sport. 2. The governmental sport budget has accounted for 0.09%-0.35% of national budget; this is insufficient compared to the advanced nations level. The government sport budget should be 0.5%-1.0%($ 450-890 million) of national gross budget. 3. The prospects of the elite sport in Korea are as follows: ① The expanded budget for elite sport in Korea may not expected any more. ② The national intervention policy related to elite sport will be reduced. ③ Every sport organization has to try making balanced budget itself. ④ The operating of school elite sport is supposed to conduct under balanced planning and schedule which mean student-athletes keep pace with study and game. ⑤ The National Sport Festival and the National Youth Sport Festival may not keep well without reform. ⑥ South and North Korea in sport will keep in touch and interchange actively. ⑦ In college level, the elite and competition sport should be active ever before.
