This paper argues that a military English corpus based on authentic materials centered around conversation contributes to enhancement of EFL learner's English speaking proficiency. To achieve this goal, transcripts of 26 war movies and 109 episodes of war TV dramas are used to build a corpus. The researchers concentrate on high frequency words to investigate what types of vocabularies are used in military context and how the words are applied with relatively unfamiliar usages or patterns by using Wordsmith program as our corpus analyzing tool. Our analysis displays the three features of high frequency words of this corpus: ① they mainly consist of monosyllabic and disyllabic words; ② they are used as collocations with in variety of prepositions and objectives; and ③ they are distinguished as having unitary meanings and patterns of usages. In conclusion, results from this study indicate that a military English corpus will provide EFL learners with effective ways through which students can obtain knowledge of specific words within the military context and accordingly enhance their English speaking proficiency.
