Over the past decade, military science has expanded rapidly in civilian university curricula in South Korea. In the process of its development, there have been a great deal of efforts by civilian sector as well as by the military itself for setting up the institutional and pedagogical foundation of military science in civilian education system. This paper attempts to examine the influence of military science on the reciprocity between civil society and the military. To this end, it addresses how military science has been fitted to the ongoing civilian education system ideologically and functionally at both secondary and tertiary levels. Then it delves into the questions of in what way military science has affected the actors of civil society, and how this result has influenced and what it means to the interactivity of civil sector and the military. This study will show how the military, which performs various social responsibility, assumes its fundamental role by mutual collaboration with civil society in the form of military science.
