The purpose of this study is to present a planing direction for a user-oriented health smart home emphasizing the elderly’ health and welfare. This research identified the elderly’s activities of daily living, health condition and housing needs and developed a health smart home model where the elderly can live independently in their own housing. We interviewed 22 elderly people aged 65 to 79 in Seoul. The health smart home of the elderly includes suggestions such as necessary technologies and systems, space planning and desirable residential services centered on various experiences and activities according to the user"s physical ability and condition. In the case of the elderly, a complex plan combining the common facilities and the local communities is desirable, and the small plan type is useful for the unit space. Health support housing services for the elderly are largely composed of three services; Activity help service such as household labor reduction, purchase and delivery services, Social relation improvement service such as family communication, social communication, community linkage, exercise and hobby support, and Health screening and management services such as disease management, health care, emergency and safety. In the future, more customized services need to be provided to elderly people according to their characteristics and conditions.
