The objectives of this study are to contribute to healthy and positive alcohol culture and furthermore to food culture by understanding the correlation between consumers`` drinking motives, drinking problems and preferred alcoholic beverage. In addition, it is considered that the correlation serves as useful data in marketing activities. This study analyzed the correlation between drinking motives and problems by examining the drinking motives and problems of consumers in Korea and analyzing the types of alcoholic beverage preference of people with drinking problems, the relationship between the preferred alcoholic beverages, and drinking problems. In addition, through the process of researching consumer``s purchasing and consuming behavior of alcoholic beverage, this study contributes to marketers. This study used the group average analysis and frequency analysis to evaluate the correlation between variables in order to verify the research``s hypothesis. According to the results, the drinking by social motives was the highest and then followed by enhancement, liking, taste, conformity, and coping motives. It was showed that the health motive belongs to the minority group. More than 50% of the respondents who has drinking problem said they agree with the need to cut down on alcohol, obstacle to job performance and health problem due the binge drinking. They also consented with the annoyed of drinking and guilt for drinking. According to the results, the drinking motives are associated with the drinking problems, the results of drinking problems does not depend on the preferred alcoholic beverage, and all alcoholic beverages cause drinking problems.
