We have witnessed substantial transformation of spatial structures for the past few decades. The processes of transformation of spatial structures have mostly been explained by the change in industrial location pattern. However, we haven`t inquired minutely into industrial location characteristics in urban industrial complexes. The main purpose of this study is to examine the theoretical debate on industrial location characteristics, to analyze the conditions of the 3rd industrial complex in Daegu Metropolitan Area. and then to explore industrial location characteristics in urban industrial complexes. This study is organized around three parts. In the first part, we review the literature on the characteristics of industrial location and discuss the various theoretical explanations. To grasp industrial location characteristics on a realistic basis, we examine in the second part industrial location conditions of the 3rd industrial complex in Daegu Metropolitan Area. In the final part, we derive industrial location characteristics in urban industrial complexes and suggest the policy implications. From our analysis, urban industrial complexes seem to be an complex territorial system of formal and informal networks, made up of commercial and technological interdependencies. Therefore, the development policy shouldri t be made with a little thought of the actual conditions of urban industrial complexes. In the same context, it may be necessary to reconsider the movement plan of industries en bloc in the 3rd industrial complex in Daegu Metropolitan Area.
