Purpose: In order to investigate high cognitive function, working memory(WM) tasks have been used in many research. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among simple working memory tasks and complex working memory tasks. Especially, the relationship among working memory, language performance, interference tasks had been examined. Methods: 17 young normal adults participated in this study. They completed backward digit span, running span, word span, operation span, symmetry span, rotation span in which working memory span were measured. The collected data were analyzed by using Pearson correlation and t-test. Results: First, the means of simple working memory spans and complex working memory span revealed significant correlations(p<.05). The two mean scores of simple and complex working memory span had significant correlation. Second, there were significant difference of WM span between high and low working memory group through t-tests(p<.05). Conclusions: The results of this study were in accord with previous studies in which at least the mean of 3 WM have to use in order to measure the exact WM span. Therefore, In order to use more than 3 WM tasks, we need to reduce the time the WM tasks run and to reduce the fatigue of research participants and examiners. this study showed that there were significant correlation between simple and complex WM tasks. That is, it indicated the need of shorten complex WM tasks for the future study.
