This study identified the color application trend of the modern Hanbok and analyzed the features of the color application trend for clarifying the color features of female Hanbok. For the color analysis, the photos uploaded on 6 homepages of Hanbok shops and Hanbok rental shops in Seoul were analyzed. Collected photos have a total of 1,195 colors, 510 women’s skirts, 482 women’s jeogori, 203 women’s vest and dang-ui. The subjects were the photos of female adults who were due for marriage from 2010 to 2016. The photos selected were classified per year and item and analyzed using the Hue & Tone 120 System of IRI Design Institute Inc. In accordance with the color analysis results, the color and hue of Korean traditional hanbok are changing to adapt to modern sensibility according to the times. The traditional five colors(Obangsac; The colors of the five orientations) representing five cardinal directions and the modern ones were used by reflecting the features of the times. From 2010 to 2012, there were many vivid five-color hues. However, from 2013 to 2016, the pastel hue of medium saturation showed a lot of five-colors. While black traditionally represented darkness in accordance with Taoistic Yin-Yang and Five Elements theory of Korea, black was used in the modern Hanbok as the representative color of modernity and elegance in the modern times. In the same way as Joseon period preferring white, white was used at high ratio also in the modern Hanbok. However, it is preferred because of the lack of past dyeing techniques and the possibility of clean images and various colors, which are different from the whiteness thought.
