The purpose of this paper is to provide basic data on the principles of color planning and type of collective housing in Korea, by extracting characteristics of color usage method on the Netherlands settlement housing presenting a rational model of a good residential environment with sustainable architectural policies, maintenance and rational management. The method of study was conducted through literature review from the architectural policy and regional characteristics on the target site is Java Island, east of Amsterdam. Also, we extracted the main viewpoints of color and the use of color through collective housing color through the exploration. From the analysis, first it was found to the use of colors which did not separate the basic form of architecture appeared. Most of them were single color for shape maintenance, appeared the color splitting by architectural elements. Second, main color, sub color and accent color are caused by repeated cross coloring between buildings, they had a single color palette. Third, according to the user`s recognition distance, we could see the usage style of colors in connection with the form and detail of architecture. Fourth, the use of color by material showed much more color than that painted with paint. Finally, there were colors that do not distinguish commercial spaces or work spaces, colors that do not have emphasis colors, and patterns that match architectural forms and details. Therefore, it is thought that the color of the collective housing should be considered the linkage perspective and the arrangement, considering not a single point of view but the point of view and arrangement of shape, space, user and material.
