This study was designed to identify constraints among the participants of horseback riding and its discontinuation factor of discontinuer. The study will also identify how constrains can limit or interrupt horseback riding activities. The participants in study 1 were 150 affinity club members who participated in horseback riding at Jeju province. These participants answered open-ended questions about their source of constraints during horseback riding. By using Inductive content analysis we classified 17 unit detail areas, 8 unit general areas, and 3 themes of higher order constraints. When evaluating on the basis of general category of importance, time constraint was shown as the most important factor, followed by economy constraints, accessibility constraints, facilities and environment constraint. Other factors that effected the general evaluation of the participants in horseback riding were intrapersonal constraints, season and weather constraints, educational environment constraints and interpersonal constraints. The study 2 used deductively analyzed contents from in-depth interview with 14 participants who gave up horseback riding by using inductive content analysis category base. After a categorization matrix has been developed, all the source data will be coded to correspond with the identified categories in study 1. When evaluated on the basis of general area category importance, interpersonal constraints was the most important discontinuation factor, followed by facilities and environment constraints, season and weather constraints, economy constraints, educational environment constraints, accessibility constraints, time constraints and intrapersonal constraints. Therefore, the study shows the distinction and the importance of participation constraints between horse riding participants and the participants who quit riding horseback. This finding is discussed in terms of horseback riding activation plan.
