The purpose of this study was to explore the research trends of parenting stress in Korea using a sematic network analysis. We analyzed the titles of 995 journal articles that included “parenting stress” and that were published in the Korean language between 1990 to 2017. We found that “mother,” “parenting,” and “effect” were the key words that appeared most frequently in the analyzed titles. These key words had a high degree of centrality, eigenvector centrality, and betweenness centrality, which shows that parenting stress research has focused on mothers and examined the factors associated with parenting stress. Our CONCOR analysis identified four clusters of frequently used terms: (a) general parenting stress, (b) marriage and parenting stress, (c) families of children with special needs and stress, and (d) preventive education and therapy. We compared the ego networks of “father” and “mother.” While both “mother” and “father” were highly related to “parenting,” “effect,” and “children,” “father” was strongly linked to “mother” and “participation,” which reveals that parenting stress research in Korea has been centered around mothers rather than fathers. We suggest that future research focus on fathers as co-caregivers and other caregivers such as grandparents who may also experience parenting stress.
