This paper aims to bridge contemporary psychological studies on grief and religious and theological perspectives on grief and care. In the first half of the paper, the recent development in psychological studies on grief is briefly reviewed. The review shows that contemporary researchers in the field view human beings as relational subjects who live inter-dependently in various relationships and take active role in reconstructing the meaning and the purpose of life. Among the grief theories, two major themes of “meaning reconstruction” and “continuing bonds” are focused since they both refer to human transcendental nature. In the second half of the paper, how religions may respond to these two emerging themes is discussed based on the Christian theology. Religious beliefs, community, and religious practices are discussed.
