Enhanced behavioural models are proposed in this paper for the peak-current-mode (PCM) and average-current-mode (ACM) control of the phase-shifted full bridge (PSFB) converter with a current doubler rectifier. Detailed small-signal analysis of the converter is presented considering the parasitics associated with the passive components. The models enabled the design of a robust digital current-mode closed-loop controller for the converter. The converter has been designed for automotive high voltage to low voltage DC-DC converter applications and has strict transient response requirements. All the enhanced open-loop transfer functions derived using small-signal analysis of the converter are validated using LTspice simulations. The closed-loop controller models are also simulated in MATLAB Simulink to optimise the designs of the compensators for both ACM and PCM closed-loop controls. Detailed transient-response analysis of the converter also verifies the effectiveness of the enhanced models which are significantly faster than the conventional models.
