This study was performed to determine the effects of the muscular strength training of lower extremities on the gait patterns and isokinetic strength in Individuals with hemiplegia resulting from stoke. The five participants trained four times a week for six weeks using a specially designed training program for strength enhancement of the lower extremities. Prior to and after the six weeks of training, all participants were assessed on the selected gait patterns and isokinetic tests of knee extention and flexion at 30 deg/s. The results through the study are followings. The participants exhibited significant increase in the center of gravity (COG). The average step length of the subjects increased by 7.15cm in the affected side and by 21.19cm in the unaffected side. The time of average gait decreased by 0.20sec after the training. The training resulted in the decrease in the time of average gate by 0.02 seconds. The time of swing phase decreased by 0.10sec after the training. Incomplete gait patterns were showed before the training but more natural gaits were done after the training because unaffected side was bendier at RTO. The ankle joint angle of unaffected side was less bendy that affected side. at RTO but the bent of the ankle became quite better after the training. The training had an effect on the development of the peak torques of flexors and extensors at unaffected side. The training had an effect on the development of the total work of flexors and extensors at unaffected side. The training had an effect on the development of the average power of flexors and extensors at unaffected side.
