Introduction: During the last decade, South Korea has had a remarkable place among Arab countries in the fields of commerce, economy and culture. This remarkable place was due to many reasons, e.g. the good quality of Korean products with their good manufacturing. This gave a good impression about the Korean character;therefore,the researcher aims to introduce modern Korean poetry to the Arab world. Study period and material: The researcher attempts to identify the image of ‘place’ hometown, homeland.In the modern Korean poetry, from the beginning to the 20th century until the 1960.Study goals: to identify the most important characteristics of the modern Korean literature, presenting samples of this poetry,that was translated by the researcher himself, The study will try to find out the image of the place in modern Korean poetry and its metaphorical meanings,especially during that hard period in the Korean history under the Japanese colonialism then under the civilian war between north and south. Methodology: The research also depended on the literary analysis that contemplates the poem as being system. This system consists of big and small units\ elements. Those elements turn to sub systems according to their structural levels. As a result of these premises, the researcher in this research depended on an analytical perspective which concentrates on the text on one side, and the social,cultural and historical background of the South Korean society on the other side. Results: -Most of the poems concerned with great attention to embody the suffering of the nation through the direct expression of this suffering, or suffering through the mixed audio speaker in the poem, whether it is voice of the poet or a mask he used to express through it. - The farmer and other people who fought against Japanese occupation have a clear presence evident in many poems; they were just examples for many Koreans who left everything for the defensing their homeland, volunteering for resistance against the occupation. - The images - Like most of the images in the poems during that period- are based on a basic vocabulary words: home, dream, nostalgia, south, north, unity and elements of time and nature. - there is presence for the alternative queried places because it has such security that everyone was looking for. the main concern and the common denominator in those poems was that life cannot continue without a place, or home. - There are hometowns, fields, farms, mountains, ports and other words that belongs to the nature and the geography of Korea as a place, and there are grandparents, parents and beloved, children, peasants and workers. The methods of expression, was direct, or symbolically.
