This paper analysed a character’s desire presented in the novel, and examined that the understanding about the character’s desire could deepen the understanding about the novel. And, focusing the understanding about the character’s desire, designed the content of the novel teaching for the whole comprehension of human life, ‘the understanding of a character’s mediated desire’, ‘the comprehension of a living essence through the understanding about the falsehood of the mediated desire’, ‘self understanding and growth through the understanding about the character’s desire’. And, examined these contents are embodied in a process that a student reader reads the novel.
A student reads and understands the novel presenting a character’s desire and it’s falsehood, have a great sense. Because a student reader understands the multi-level of life through a character’s mediated desire, accords this with his life, and prepares the chance that can reflect his life as a growing being. Also, because a student reader has a sympathetic attitude about a character’s life accomplishing his mediated desire, grows the morality of the other intention.
