This study investigates the origin and transmission of the Nalmoe Drum Dance. After studying the structure and meaning of the dance with the connection of Oriental philosophy through the research for the representative dancing movements, the author looks into the social and cultural aspects of the dance with the ritual features, communities and festival functions. The social and cultural functions of the Nalmoe Drum Dance are as follows. First. it had basically praying functions at the village-exocism and ritual functions combined with people’s lifestyle. Second, it had communal features for socially securing the solidarity of populace and completing the common purposes. Third, it had playing functions all participants, through play of dance experienced to enjoy by forming a more enjoyable and sense of unities. Finally, the general public overcame the conflict came from tension with the dance and it had also festival functions which released and solved the people’s inherent sadness and sorrow. Likewise, the Nalmoe Drum Dance being harmony with custom, society and culture features a unique locality with social change and makes a great contribute to various forms of collective culture and forming society. In addition, it has a great folk value and area’s rich texture and artistic characteristics based on the uniqueness of local distinctiveness. The author examined the ritual features and the social functionality of the Nalmoe Drum Dance. If the Nalmoe Drum Dance takes efforts for recreating performance based on the origin and making complete stages, we can anticipate the great roles of dance which make the local people’s refined emotions and social integration with generating collective cheerfulness and homogeneous affective.
