This research examines the overall awareness, needs, and problems of forest kindergartens and primaryschools in Korea. 109 kindergarten teachers, including current principals, 265 parents, 126 primaryschool teachers, and 339 parents participated in this study. First, the study shows that kindergartenshave some knowledge about forest schools but primary schools have very little awareness. Second,parents and teachers of kindergartens and primary schools who voiced the need for forest schools citedchildren’s feeling safe in nature as the primary reason. Third, almost everyone wanted kindergarten andprimary school teachers to work closely with forestry experts when managing forest schools. Whenasked to identify specific concerns regarding current and future operation of forest schools, mostrespondents felt that the overall interest and information are severely lacking to properly manage forestschool operations. Finally, when asked about the qualifying conditions of future forest school sites, theyall preferred government owned properties managed by government agencies. In addition, they expresseda strong desire for some form of government subsidies to lower the tuition for attending forest schools.
