Nowadays, we are living in a world without borders or boundaries due to the end of ideologies and the expended communications network. However, those features cause more issues between people and more strengthened nation. These matters can be clearly represented in a relationship between Korea and Japan. Although Japan is culturally familiar and friendly the other, historically be considered as hostile the other which has to be toppled down. However, the concept of the other is not a fixed concept even be varied from the period and the situation. Therefore, accepting the Korea(n)‘s perception as subject toward Japan(ese) as the other with a single idea of "amity and hostility" can only incites distorted images between two countries. Accordingly, this study diachronically looks into the change of perception of Japanese in Korean Novels through the recognition of subject and the other. To achieve these, Korean novels need to be divided into before and after liberation and then further be divided into the authors who experienced the colonial period and those who did not before liberation. During the colonial period, subject(Korean) degraded to subject with alterity by powerful the other(Japanese). Although subject restored its status after liberation, subject was not aware of the otherness of the other. Throughout the last period, new concept of subject and the other were created by both subject and the other were refusing to acknowledge the fixed concept of each other.
