Many countries, including South Korea, have enacted laws and policies designed to encourage the development and spread of new and renewable energy, offering generous incentives in consideration of the fact that new and renewable energy costs more and displays lower power generation efficiency than conventional fossil energy sources. Among the major policy measures implemented by the South Korean government to encourage the development of new/renewable energy are the Feed-In Tariff (FIT), the Financing Support Program, and various tax incentives. This study examined the significance of the new/renewable energy policy by evaluating the economic feasibility of tidal power generation with the focus on FIT and the Financing Support Program, which serve as important tools in establishing the country’s new/renewable energy sector. It appears that such policy measures have a great impact on the economic feasibility of tidal power generation.
