With rapid economic growth, increasing interest in social welfare, and development of sciences, human life span is increasingly lengthened, leading to the creation of ageing society, where preparation for death-which cannot be overlooked-exercises great influence on the culture of funeral. Also, “funeral makeup,” which has developed due to social needs, is recently used by certain classes of people, and has yet to be furthered in order to either be recognized as a professional job or classified as such. Common people were surveyed to identify their perception of funeral makeup. In the result, more women than men said that a funeral makeup is necessary or that they will use funeral makeup. More people in their 20s and 30s, than people in their 50s, knew about funeral makeup. Regardless of age, education and religion, a large number of people said that a funeral makeup is necessary, and that they will use it. Considering these results, a greater number of those who knew about funeral makeup, and that a funeral makeup is necessary, responded that will use funeral makeup. Regardless of their majors, all respondents said that a funeral makeup is necessary, and regarding the preference of makeup performers as well, funeral makeup artists were preferred the most. Thus, most of people consider funeral makeup necessary, prefer the job of funeral makeup artists, indicating the need to provide professional guidance and education on funeral makeup, and if the service is widely promoted, the funeral makeup will emerge a new job among the makeup industry.
