Modern society could be called the “age of individualization” in terms of the pursuit of an original image. The beauty industry today is showing a trend of specialization into areas such as hair, skin care, make up, and nail art, and these areas have further specialized in accordance with consumer demands. With the recent increase in interest and demand for nail art, this profession has been assuming a place as an attractive field generating high value added. Accordingly, this study has the goal of assisting the development of the nail industry and the popularization of its base through developments in nail design. Its aim is to discover an unlimited range of artistic elements through the application to nail art of the geometric elements characteristic of op art and the principles of that area, which combines the characteristics of the visual arts with instability, directionality, and three-dimensionality, thus presenting new works of nail design for realizing a new world of nail art with a broad range of perspectives.
