This paper reviews the characteristics of multiculturalism and multicultural education in Australia based on a textual analysis of some selected public literature and scholarly assessment in order to get inspired for a unique Korean model of multicultural education. Australia is one of the most cosmopolitan and dynamic societies in the world. Australia's experiences in terms of multiculturalism can be invaluable resources for Korea that is becoming a multicultural society. Firstly, main characteristics of multiculturalism of Australia are introduced with its history of migration as a background. Secondly, multiculturalism in formal education at different levels are illustrated in detail. Thirdly, multiculturalism reflected in teaching materials, method, and curriculum is described. Finally, discussions for a Korean model of multicultural education are brought up.
