The objectives of this study were to investigate the antioxidant activity and anti-wrinkle effect of Rhamnus yoshinoi methanol extract (RYME) in a cell-free system. The total polyphenol and flavonoids contents in RYME were 538.4 and 196.3 mg/g, respectively. The electron-donating ability of RYME at 100 μg/mL was 92.5%, while its collagenase and elastase inhibitory effects at 8,000 μg/mL were 53.4 and 41.7%, respectively. In comparison, collagenase and elastase inhibition of the positive control vitamin C were 51.0 and 32.7%, respectively. The present study demonstrated that RYME has high antioxidant activity and effectively inhibited the activities of collagenase and elastase.
