Body painting is 'synthetic art of fantasy make up' expressed on the body, and is a field of art in which creative and original world of make up artists can be maximized. It has been acknowledged and magnified as art especially since the late 20th century, and today it is in the limelight as a genre of art expressed on the body, in various fields such as fashion, advertising, broadcast, and the events industry related to plays, as well as performing arts.
As such, body painting is used in various ways in many fields and is functioning as the principal or subsidiary of expressing the subject. Yet, the most important thing is that body painting today is acknowledged as art with a certain independence. For this result, there have been many researches and efforts of artists on body painting through various techniques. One medium of expression is Trompe-I'oeil technique of body painting.
Thus, this thesis sheds new light on body painting that has been in progress and examines how the elements and expression methods affecting the internal symbol and external form are displayed through the aesthetic approach on a body painting technique, Trompe-I'oeil, as well as the theoretical study of Trompe-I'oeil technique using optical illusion, with the purpose of ultimately expressing body painting more effectively and using as materials to predict the future trends.
