This paper argues against the mainstream scholarly view that questions translatabiliy and the value of teaching Korean idioms. This study makes a counter claim by saying that such skepticism does not hold much validity, especially when the Korean linguistic terms for "idioms" have not been officially integrated. Thus, this paper urges the need for the scholars to make a clear recognition of Korean idioms as a set of challenging linguistic aspects which foreign learners have to acquire; this is especially true for the students of interpretation and translation. Thus, a certain pedagogical tool has to be developed to effectively teach Korean idioms since they are intensely culture-specific. Particularly for the purpose of translation study for Chinese students, this paper devises and presents a taxonomy by making classifications of Korean idioms with matching Chinese idioms.
