The purpose of this study is to enhance confidence and listening proficiency of young learners through English television programs for children, and also to investigate classroom activities to help focus their attention on the programs. This study as an action research tries to utilize an English education program in the form of VOD for the beginning young learners. The participants were 35 primary school 3rd grade students. They watched the English program Billy the Bat for one semester and their attention to the program was induced by activities and games. Specifically, this research studied the buildup of learners' confidence toward English, the development of activities for focusing learners' concentration on the program and finally, listening proficiency enhancement gained through the listening activities. The results showed that 34.4% of the students reported that listening to English became more comfortable and that the number of the words they wrote down increased dramatically from the 6th performance, which demonstrates improvement of listening ability. However, the results of performance tests (i.e., listen and answer) showed no significant difference between the experimental group and the other control groups due to the limitation of the short period. Therefore, further research is required. Future research must be more long-term and requires the development of a listening test for beginner students.
