The purpose of this study was to analyze hypothesis testing biology laboratory activities in 17kinds of the 7th grade and 10 kinds of the 8th grade science textbooks written upon the 2007 revised science curriculum. The hypothesis testing biology experiments were 21.5% of the total inquiry activities. The required inquiry activities such as ‘the factors required in photosynthesis’, ‘determination of nutrients in food’, ‘enzyme amylase action on starch’, ‘relationship between exercise and pulse rate’ were included in all the textbooks. The percentages of scientific inquiry process guidance in the hypothesis testing laboratory activities were as follows: the guidance of inquiry question construction (86.5%), hypothesis construction (5.9%), experimental design (36.1%), experimental procedure (95.8%), data transformation (39.4%), data interpretation (75.6%), drawing conclusion (89.9%),reflection (0.8%) and expansion (30.3%). Without any guidance, 70.9% of inquiry questions was given to students at the body text before entering laboratory activities and 29.1% was given before experimental procedure part in the laboratory activities. All the guidance of hypothesis construction were done before experimental procedure part. Without any guidance for students to design experiments themselves, 58.2% of experimental designs was questioned at the experimental procedure part and 41.8% was at the result and discussion part. All the experimental procedures were given at the experimental procedure part. 44.7% of data transformation was guided at the end of the experimental procedure part and 55.3% was at the result and discussion part. 93.4% of data interpretation was guided at the result and discussion part and 6.6% was at the experimental procedure part. 11.0% of drawing conclusion was guided at the end of the experimental procedure part and 89.0%was at the result and discussion part. All the reflection and expansion were guided at the end of the result and discussion part.
