This study compared Biology Ⅰ textbooks according to the 7th Curriculum and Life Science I textbooks according to the Revised 2009 Curriculum. This textbook analysis examined differences in unit composition together with level and proportion of content elements of the unit of metabolism, and the theme and type of inquiry activities embodied in the above unit. The result of study was as follows. First, two kinds of textbooks showed differences in unit composition as follows: Four large units across digestion, circulation, respiration, and excretion in Biology Ⅰ textbooks were considerably curtailed to the middle unit of 'life and energy' and 'immunity' under the large unit of 'homeostasis and health' in Life ScienceⅠ textbooks. Second, contents related to metabolism were almost none or lacking in Life Science Ⅰ textbooks compared with Biology Ⅰ textbooks, and the number of descriptive pages also decreased in Life Science Ⅰ textbooks. But, those Life ScienceⅠ textbooks might cover almost every content of those Biology Ⅰ textbooks if it includes the contents of Middle School Science 2 textbooks. Finally, the Life Science Ⅰ featured quite less themes of inquiry activities compared with the Biology Ⅰ, and its type of inquiry activities was most centered upon ‘Thinking,' being followed by ‘Doing' and 'Experimenting’ in order.
