The purpose of this study was to survey the elementary school students‘ conceptual understanding of the global warming. Subjects were 293 sixth grade elementary school students in the National Capital region and Gyeongsang region. They had the comparatively positive opinion on the level of understanding the concept of global warming of their own. The survey on the explanation pattern for the global warming depending on the gender of the elementary school students revealed that the most cases were correct in explaining only the result(phenomenon) of the global warming and the mistaken explanation on both of the reason and phenomenon of the global warming was about 21.5%. In this respect, the significant difference was not shown between the male and female (p>.05). In general, it was surveyed that most of the students had the misconception on the cause and result of global warming. With regards to the reason of appearing the global warming, the most of the students answered for environment contamination, ozone layer destruction, smoke from the factories and automobiles. With regards to the influences of global warming, it was known that most of the answers was related to the ascending of the sea water level due to the thawing and climate changes.
