Objective: To evaluate criterion validity using an outcome from the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) measuring Quality of Life (QOL) and interrater reliability for the QOL section of Minimum Data Set version 3.0 for Nursing Home (NH) residents. Method: Criterion validity was measured by using pearson correlation coefficients 1) between the relationship scale in the QOL of MDS 3.0 and relationship indicator of NOC, and 2) between QOL summary scale of MDS 3.0 and overall NOC QOL outcome (n=231). Interrater reliability was measured by intraclass correlation coefficients between 2 raters (n=48). Results: Pearson correlation coefficients regarding close relationships ranged from .17 to .28 for the Likert scale and from .16 to .25 for the dichotomous scale. Pearson correlation coefficients regarding the overall QOL was .58 for Likert scale and .34 for the dichotomous scale. The K-values for interrater reliability were between .73 and 1.0 for the Likert scale, and for that of dichotomous scale revealed between .37 and 1.0.
