The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of Chinese learning motivations and strategies of Korean junior college students, and to examine differences in learning motivation and use of strategies depending on Chinese achievement levels and grades. This study also investigated the relationship between learning motivations and strategies. The main findings of the study are the following: First, this study found that Korean junior college students have a high level of integrative motivation. Second, after analysing the use of Chinese learning strategies, social strategy appeared to be the most frequently used strategy among Korean junior college students, followed by metacognitive, compensatory, affective, cognitive and memory strategy. Third, an analysis of the correlation between learning motivations and strategies showed that social strategy and cognitive strategy were significantly related to all motivations and affected the use of motivations of students. Fourth, there appeared to be a statistically significant correlation between Chinese proficiency and the use of metacognitive, cognitive and memory strategy. The results showed that students with higher Chinese proficiency tended to use cognitive strategy more frequently.
