The development of historical science in the twentieth century led to the emergence of a number of new areas, one of which was oral history. Oral history as a method of historiography is an integral part of qualitative research and its indispensability is obvious, especially where a number of sources, for various reasons, are not available or have not been preserved. In this case, it is the only source of information about a particular historical event. Often, a story written by scientists on the basis only of written documents has the ability to reflect only the general trends and patterns. Therefore, the method of oral history is important for the study of totalitarian regimes, where there is a diversity of opinions and dominant documents approved by the state and the party. However, the first priority of oral history is not getting the facts and the subject of the interview and its individual communication, personal experiences, the criteria for decision-making in complex and everyday situations, personal motivation, etc. A small Uzbek experience in oral history leads to an understanding of the need to consider oral history as a distinct field of research, and as a combination of a variety of ways and methods of analysis and interpretation actually obtained by interviewing texts. In other words, today is the current focus on the stages of oral historical research, which begin after the fieldwork.
