A Mongolian movie is not familiar with us. Historically, Koreans have had a bad memory about Mongolia. Therefore, it is natural to show a negative attitude about a Mongolian movie. However, the actual reason why Koreans are not familiar with a Mongolian movie is because we didn’t watch it quite often.
When we think about a Mongolian movie, only ‘Genghis Khan’ movies generally come up to our mind.
A Mongolian movie has managed to survive even though experiencing various historical accidents. Currently, cost of film production is threatening Mongolian movie industry the most. Recently, subject or genre of a movie got to be free, it is short of support to back it up. An issue of a Mongolian movie indicates an issue regarding Mongolia. Currently, Mongolia is threatened by new culture introduced from outsides. Mongolian traditional culture disappears gradually, and foreign culture whose nationality is indistinct, is spreading wide.
Culture and artist are worried about Mongolian tradition disappearing. They are concerned about new culture and traditional culture.
The director of a movie, ‘Byambasuren Davaa’, is standing in the center of these cultural troubles. She grew up in Mongolia and left for Germany to study abroad. In Germany, she had experienced the cultural trouble of western culture and Mongolian traditional culture with every fiber of her body. She suggested her own trouble and a plain alternative in the movie. I will analyze her movies that consider troubles between Mongolian modernity and traditionality. I can suggest an alternative through these tries to innumerable countries that are concerned about mixture of different cultures. This study means a lot because Korea is also finding a way to resolve cultural troubles with various cultures mixed in Korea.
Hybridity which South America that had suffered from cultural mixture,suggested as an alternative can be applied in Mongolian culture. Therefore, this study intends to look closely into movies that are approached with the hybridity by the director of a movie, ‘Byambasuren Davaa’.
