Under such a circumstance, this study was aimed at analyzing the effects of acupoint massage on abdominal obesity, weight, body condition (body fat ratio, body fat weight and other fat weight), blood pressure and in-blood lipid, and thereby, providing some basic data useful for middle-aged women to manage their abdominal obesity or for the skincare/obesity management services. To this end, 14 women aged between 30 and 40 and living in Seoul whose waist/hip circumference ration exceeded 0.80 were sampled. They were requested to visit a skincare service twice a week for their abdominal acupoint massage for 30 minutes a day. The subject were aged 40.71 on average. Their average weight was 65.99kg, average height 157.43cm, average waist circumference 92.22cm and average hip circumference was 98.58cm. 8 women had their jobs, while the other women excluding one were housewives. 57.1% of the sample were working women. 13 women (92.9%) were married, while only a woman was single. 42.9% of the sample women gave birth to a child, and 50.0% of them gave birth to two children. All in all, 92.9% of the women had the experience of giving birth to one or two children. As a result of the abdominal acupoint massage for 8 weeks, the average ‘waist/hip ratio’ (WHR) of the women decreased significantly by 0.04% from the pretest level of 0.95 to 0.90. As the results of this study suggest, acupoint massage was found effective in lowering weight, BMI, dropsy index, body and other fat, body fat ratio, blood pressure, LDL and neutral lipid and raising HDL. Thus, it may well be concluded that acupoint massage has some effects on middle-aged women’s abdominal obesity causing various health problems and ugly look.
