In this paper, I analyzed modern Korean poets' works based on the point of view of poetry shown in the preface of The Book of Odes and The Analects of Confucius, which could be the sources of Eastern aesthetics, and through this I brought light on the nature of poetry and a poet's sense of creation. The Book of Odes and The Analects of Confucius not only contain political philosophy but they are also important as a principle that could judge Eastern aesthetics. Therefore, the challenge that we bring light on the sense of creation of modern Korean poetry has a significance from the aspect of searching the original context of modern Korean poetry. The texts to analyze in this paper were limited to two poems, named Poetry and Poet. It is because by analyzing these two texts we can try reflective examination on the poetic self-consciousness that a poet should possess in addition to what the nature of poetry is through Eastern aesthetics. The Aesthetic perspective contained in The Book of Odes and The Analects of Confucius is that you could express emotional inspiration naturally through a great text and through it you could find enlightenment ultimately. In particular, the concepts of Heung(excitement), the feeling identifying that poetry can be the means of emotional expression, Gwan(insight), the concept educating the eye in penetrating what‘s what, Goon(community), what helps to realize the correct relations between a man and the world as well as between humans and Won(resentment), the opinion that we can criticize the contradiction of the society, etc could be what integrate poetry's effective values. Moreover, the perspective that poetry not only have moral and ethical usefulness but also have practical values in life is a significant statement that we could reconsider the nature of poetry. As we studied modern Korean poetry based on Eastern aesthetics in this paper, we could confirm modern Korean poetry is true to the nature of poetry noted in The Book of Odes and The Analects of Confucius. We could confirm poets' sense of creation in an example that a poet's nature viewing the world was released so naturally and tones and rhythms were added to make a piece of poetry or in poets' aspects singing the reality of contradiction through a voice of acute criticism. Furthermore, by worrying the right direction of poetry from the point of Eastern aesthetics, we made sure that Eastern aesthetics could be a useful standard to analyze a text.
