The Journal of Chinese Language and Literature was originated from the Chinese Literary Society in 1986. After that, starting from publishing the first series of Journal of Chinese Language and Literature in December 1988, total 88 series have been published till August 2018. Taking the submission of theses for six times every year, it is published bimonthly. The theses are submitted and examined in three areas such as ancient literature, language, and contemporary literature. However, reviewing the actual tendency of publication, besides those three areas, there are also many theses on education, culture, history, or convergence study. There are total 23-types of registered journals related to Chinese literature of the National Research Foundation of Korea. Out of them, the Journal of Chinese Language and Literature of the Chinese Literary Society received the high evaluation for the influence index and centrality index, and the theses of Chinese ancient literature also continuously grabbed the academic attention. However, facing the 30th anniversary of its foundation, the Chinese Literary Society should deeply think about the researches on Chinese ancient literature, and also the identity and position of its journal. In order for the development of this society and journal, there should be more efforts in diverse areas for the qualitative improvement of researches on ancient Chinese literature and this journal. At this timing, we could ask some questions as follows. Does this journal reveal the clear identity in the research area of Chinese language and literature? Do the research performances aim for the research tasks that could be returned to the public? Are diverse research tasks developed by leading the convergence researches? Are the research performances shared by increasing the internationalization index and also actively exchanging with excellent scholars in the world? Especially, the ancient Chinese literature area could have diverse texts and research themes in Chinese language and literature. However, if the research scope is limited to the time or genre, it would be limited to develop more diverse research tasks. In the future, this journal is expected to show the results of putting efforts into the development of new convergence research themes in the ancient Chinese literature area.
