Yan Lian Ke(閻連科)'s Novelistic languages present multifarious characteristics, and they are his novel's distinct features and meaningful themes of study. Using Henan dialects, Yan Lian Ke expresses local native consciousness in his works, and through the language of the Cultural Revolution he satirizes society. Therefore, he expresses specific meanings through a variety of linguistic techniques. His diversification of novelistic languages is not for a simple variation of creative techniques but for the delivery of specific themes and hidden meanings of works. He wrote his novel Sishu(四書) using a plenty of biblical languages, and it is the novel's distinct feature and presents complex meanings.
First, imitation of biblical languages connotes the existence of God. The Bible says God is omniscient and omnipotent, and rules over everything. In the novel, God exists and He is a totalitarian ruler. A novelistic character 'Ai' is an administrator of Yushin District, and his image is similar to Jesus in the Bible. Representing God, Jesus carries out the delivery of divine will. 'Ai' has the same feature with Jesus, because every time he came back from the outside world he brought to ruler's will. Since the ruler is God, everyone must unconditionally obey His order, although it is contrast to the law of nature. Anyone who violates it he or she will be punished severely.
Second, imitation of biblical languages connotes sins. The original sin is human being's native and unavoidable vice. Intellectuals in Yushin District were born with the original sin, since they have free will and thought which the ruler is afraid of. Because of their original sin, they are punished to be banished from the district. If they comply with ruler's will, they can enjoy peaceful life. However, if they violate ruler's will, they can be punished severely, even can cost their life.
Third, imitation of biblical languages connotes the sense of punishment. If someone commits a sin, he or she will be punished without exception. It is clear that person in power in the novel is God, but the novelist implies the existence of true God. A great leap itself violates the regulation of nature. Violation of objective regulation of nature is the same with the violation of God's will, and person who commits this sin will be punished with a severe famine. Punishment here is different from ruler's punishment. Punishment by a person in power is a product of totalitarianism, but God's punishment is a real warning.
Borrowing biblical languages combines a novel and a religion and then stands out the dark side of politics and human beings, thus making people think deeply. The aim of Yan Lian Ke's linking of a novel with a religion is not to advise people to live a virtuous life, but to expose the true color of human beings from other perspectives and then search for the meaning of human existence. In this regard, borrowing biblical languages in the novel has the value of research.
