The novel acquires concreteity through how to arrange and structure the real world, and at the same time it is also distinguished from empirical reality and semantically. “White Champak”(1943) by Lv Heruo and “The Garden of Wax-apple”(1943) by Long Yingzong narrates the slogan of “the integration of the inner-land Japanese in Taiwan and Taiwanese” under the Japanese war dictatorship systematically. In order to empower the empire’s bright future of “the integration of the inner-land Japanese in Taiwan and Taiwanese”, they chose to summarize their memories of the past. But what is evident in this process is the current disconnected from the past. The more beautiful the old story is, the more clear the distance from the present. In addition, “White Champak” and “The Garden of Wax-apple” point out the falsehood and the impossibility of mutual understanding between the Taiwanese and the Japanese, and the conditions for the establishment of harmony to the Japanese decision. Finally, it confirms the impossibility of “the integration of the inner-land Japanese in Taiwan and Taiwanese” by reconfirming the failed ending of the past. In other words, what is expected to be represented by the material “the integration of the inner-land Japanese in Taiwan and Taiwanese” is refracted through these three devices. There is a different meaning from the possibility of reconciliation.
