The army of the Tang Dynasty invaded Goguryeo in 645. The General of the Tang Dynasty, Li-jik surrounded the Liao-tung Castle on May 2th. Goguryeo soldiers came for the relief of the Castle. Fighting broke out in the field. The military of Tang Dynasty lost the war and was damaged in the defeat. Then the cavalry of Tang Dynasty showed up and push Goguryeo forces out of the way.
The main part of Emperor Tàizōng of Táng crossed the Liao-ho fen and arrived at the Castle. on May 10th. The army of Tang Dynasty did the Trench reclamation first of all. Many Tang Dynasty soldiers were damaged under the arrow attack of Goguryeo military in the process. the Trench fell into extreme distress with numerous rotten bodies in the summer. Tang Dynasty dug the underground tunnel. Because soldies shrank from coming close to the place.
The Castle was the lower ground. So Tang Dynasty failed the work because of leaking water. The army of Tang Dynasty was in low spirits. So Tang Dynasty gave a morale-boosting concert. The people of Goguryeo in the Castle held the shamanistic ceremony. Both of them wanted to stir up the morale.
The Castle were attacked under the catapult. Goguryeo forces repaired the broken ramparts with trees on all such occasions. The ratio of the tree ramparts became to rise. It was a catastrophe for Goguryeo. The army of Tang Dynasty set fire to the southwest palace when the wind rose on May 17th. The Castle was enveloped in flames. The water fort lost the war by attacking with fire.
