The purpose of this study is to analyzes whether self-control are related to victimization. As general theory, self-control theory can be explain both on offending and on victimization. According to self-control theory, individual with low self-control are at greater risk on victimization than those with high self-control, everything else being equal. We tries to review the theoretical issues on the victimization with self-control theory, and to analyse the effect of self-control on victimization of children in Korea. The data that we have analysed here were obtained from a self-reported survey conducted in Seoul in July, 2009. The sample consists of a total of 911 elementary school students aged between 10 and 12. In this study, we found that individual's self-control class has related to victimization, and has a significantly negative direct effect upon victimization, and indirect effect through criminal opportunity, such as exposure toward crime. Low self-control increase the degree of victimization. When sex and age, and family factor is controlled, self-control still has a significant direct effect on victimization. The finding reported in this paper has supported the self-control theory. And we wish this study to contribute to the understand and explanation of the relationship between self-control and victimization. From our study, it is implied that future research could be develop a more considerable model on the victimization in our society and to elaborate the measures on the major concepts and analysis methods.
