The word, 'the national interest' can have various meanings according to an individual or a social group. The concept of national interest has been always hot issue in the field of journalism. This study intends to objectify how the journalists understand and use the word, 'the national interest'. Following two questions are established for the research purpose of this thesis. [Question 1] What type of perception do Korean journalists manifest when they face the issue of the national interest? [Question 2] What are the difference and the common point exhibited by various types of perception on the national interest? 55 Q questionnaires prepared after in-depth interview with a few people based on these statements are posed to 81 reporters. Korean journalists' the type of perception on the national interest could be classified into 4 groups as follows: Type 1 is Market Economy-Oriented Type. Type 2 is named for Nationalism- Oriented Type. Type 3 belongs to the Individualism-Oriented Type. Type 4 is Balanced Welfare- Oriented Type.
