A new peanut variety Kokwang(Arachis hypogaea L.) was developed from the cross between Florigiant and Tifapan at the Honam Agricultural Research Institute in 2003. This variety has shinpung type and erect growth habit with midium size obovate dark green leaves. The number of branches is 14, the height of the main axis is 44cm, and the length of primary branches is 48cm. This variety has two kernels with red testa color in each pod and its 100-kernel weight was 104 g. Number of pods per m2 was 216 pods and the meat contents was 75%. The seeds contained 50.2% oil, 27.0% protein, 165mg/g amino acid and the oleic/linoleic fatty acid ratio was 2.1. Resistance to disease of Cercospordium arachidicola was rated 2.3 in the field condition. The yield potential of Kokwang was 6% greater than Daekwang producing 3,320kg/ha. It would be registered as a new variety to all over the peanut cultivation area except mountainous area of Kangwon province of Korea.
