A new single cros waxy corn hybrid, ibaekchal with white kernel was developed by the Maize Experiment Station(MES) of Gangwondo Agricultural Research and Extension Services (GARES) in Hongcheon in 2001. ibaekchal, which hashigh yield and good grain quality traits, was made by cross between two inbred lines, the sed parent, HW3, and the pollen parent,HW4. Inbred HW3 derived from a single cross hybrid, W9060/A632wx, was used as the seed parent of Mibaekchal, and inbredHW4 segregated from Anseong local variety as the pollen parent. Two inbred lines advanced to eight and seven generations by ear-to-row method respectively. The silking date of this hybrid is about six days later than that of check hybrid, Chalok 1. Ear length(20.0 cm) was longer than that (16.2 cm) of check hybrid. Plant and ear height were higher than that of Chalok 1. It is moderatelyresistance to lodging and highly resistance to E. turcicum and B. maydis. ibaekchal had grain qualities and its panel test showedbetter than those of Chalok 1. The appearance and sweetnes of ibaekchal were greater traits. Number of the fresh ears and earweight were 6,196 ear/10a and 1,127 kg/10a, respectively, in regional yield trial. The yield of Mibaekchalin ear number andweight were increased 2% and 29%, respectively, compare with a check variety, Chalok 1, in regional yield trials for 3 years.
