Dance did not hold a very critical position in the early form of performance. As varioustraditional repertoires based on the Gibang culture were delivered to the audience, however,a tradition of new Korean dance started to be formed. It took place, following the acceptanceof many different folk dances and Jeongjae(court dance) performed at Giseangs' calloffices. The very first dance performance planned in a modern fashion was the Gangseonruperformance at Danseongsa in 1912. It holds its special significance as the first long-termperformance.
