This study is aimed at suggesting the methods for teaching Korean culture and Korean studies using a literature canon. To suggest the comprehensive contents of cultural education that affects Korean communication by using a literature canon, we selected the 「A Guest in Sarang room And Mother」 and 「Our Twisted Hero」 as targets to analyze the two works. This study analyzes works based on a theoretical background combining literacy theory & theory of language teaching and cultural education. The 「A Guest in Sarang room And Mother」 is analyzed cultural contents with familism, femininity, long term orientation, zeal of education, and religion, and we can suggest Korean culture and a teaching method of Korean studies. 「Our Twisted Hero」 written by Moon Yeol Lee is analyzed cultural contents of collectivism, authoritarianism, Confucian patriarchal system, and we can suggest a teaching method by using literary works in aspects of Korean culture and Korean studies. In the above analysis, we review the possibility of establishing a literature canon for Korean education and seek for the parallel teaching method which can educate by connecting with Korean language, Korean culture, and Korea studies. As a result of the study, literary works can be shown to have important value as educational data and media for introducing Korean culture and Korea studies to other cultures as well as a canon for educating Korean language.
