Cubism has been a root of creative thinking and artistic creation from early times to modern times. Artistic makeup is a genre which can express art, going beyond aesthetic limits through abstract and realistic painting. It appears that artistic makeup converges well with cubistic expression techniques. Therefore, this study applied the expression techniques from the era of Picasso to facial makeup after analyzing the techniques by the proposed colors, multiple views, shape segmentation and collage. The results found that 8 different colors extracted from Picasso’s works were applied to the segmented face in complementary color combinations. As a result, formative features in provocative and dynamic colors, which represent shape distortion, were expressed. Furthermore, the depth of plane was represented by dividing the face, making irregularities stand out. In addition, an overlapping effect, which breaks up the shape and emphasizes the cubistic features of face, uses the plane line. Lastly, the convergence of the art sphere was expressed, using diverse objects. In other words, this study expands the range of makeup ideation, breaking out from the ornamental concept of aesthetic design, and at the same time, suggests a new direction for aesthetic design through the convergence of cubism and artistic makeup.
