The purpose of this study was to understand the association between work/family spillover and marital quality. We used employed wives’ marital satisfaction as a dependent variable and husbands’ and wives’ work/family interference measure (work to family(WIF)/family to work(FIW)) as independent variables. Perceived couple conflict and other background variables were included for running the stepwise regression model. We selected a married couple those who are both working and currently live in the same households from the original data of 2015 National Family Survey of Korea (n=1,162 couple, N=2,324). Results showed that the wives’ FIW and the husbands’ WIF were negatively associated with wives’ marital satisfaction. When perceived couple conflict was included into the step three model, the impact of work/family interference on marital satisfaction disappeared (husband’s WIF) or reduced (wife’s FIW). It implies that the couple interaction could aggravate(or relieve) the impact of negative work/family spillover. Additionally, we tested whether there are any differences by the work status of husband in this association. We found self-business owner husband and working wife have different association between work/family spillover and marital satisfaction compared to those husband who are employed worker.
